About Irises by Claude Monet
Irises was painted by Claude Monet around 1914-17, during his late Giverny period. The original is an oil painting on canvas and belongs to the National Gallery, London. It is one of Monet’s garden views focused on the irises planted around the banks and paths of the water garden near his lily pond.
Instead of a formal bouquet, Monet presents the flowers as part of a dense living garden. Blue and violet blossoms rise from strong green leaves, while the loose brushwork makes the surface feel active and full of light. The image moves close to abstraction, yet it still keeps the physical feeling of flowers, leaves, soil, and garden space.
This stretched canvas version presents the work in a square product format. The square shape gives the floral field a balanced, decorative presence for modern walls while keeping the color impact and garden atmosphere clear.
Why this Monet canvas works as wall art
This canvas is ideal for interiors that need color, softness, and natural energy without hard edges. The dense flower beds bring a garden mood into the room, while the square format keeps the composition stable and easy to style.
The blue-violet flowers, green leaves, and earthy accents pair well with light walls, natural wood, linen, rattan, stone, brushed brass, cream textiles, and neutral furniture. It works as a single floral focal point or as part of a Monet-inspired wall with other Giverny and Water Lilies pieces.

Styling Irises in garden-inspired interiors
This Monet canvas works well in interiors that use plants, soft textiles, and natural materials. It adds a fresh garden feeling to living rooms, bedrooms, studios, guest rooms, and quiet corners that need color without harsh contrast.
Pair it with wooden furniture, linen cushions, pale walls, terracotta accents, cream upholstery, and soft natural light. In a neutral room, the iris blues and greens work as the main color accent. In a more layered interior, the canvas blends well with books, ceramics, plants, and textured fabrics.

About Claude Monet
Claude Monet was a founder of French Impressionism and one of the most influential painters of modern landscape art. In his later years, his garden at Giverny became his central subject. Irises, water lilies, paths, reflections, and the Japanese bridge gave him a private world of color and light to study again and again.
Irises belongs to this late garden period. The painting shows how Monet pushed floral painting beyond simple description, turning flowers and foliage into a dense field of color, movement, and atmosphere.
